Second-generation biometric passports
At press conference, second-generation biometric passports were presented.
The high-tech passports have security features and use individual's biometric traits in a bid to combat document forgery and manipulation, as well as terrorism.
Holders of passports issued after 1 March 2001 can use their documents until they expire. Despite the introduction of second-generation passports, old passports remain in use.
