Conference of Slovenian and Iranian experts in the fields of beekeeping and veterinary medicine
On 24 February 2021, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Tehran organized the first video conference in the series "Save the bees".
The purpose of the round table and the discussion was to connect Slovenian and Iranian experts with the aim of facilitating transfer of knowledge and technologies in the areas of beekeeping, bee health care and professional education of beekeepers.
In addition to lecturers from Slovenia, the video conference was attended by more than 50 Iranian experts in the fields of beekeeping and veterinary medicine as well as partners of the Slovenian Embassy from research and educational institutions. Among others, the event was attended by renowned Iranian beekeepers and representatives of the Animal Science and Research Institute of Iran (ASRI), Tehran University, Apiculture Industry Development, Advocacy Fund of Iran and Iranian Beekeeping Union.

The conference was the first of several expert meetings between representatives of Slovenia and Iran in the fields of beekeeping, veterinary medicine and education. It represents an integral part of the public diplomacy initiatives of the embassy in Tehran during this year's Slovenian presidency of the Council of the EU, which will be marked by events aimed at raising awareness of the general public about the importance of pollinators for global food security and healthy lifestyle.
In this regard, events related to the World Bee Day will take place throughout the year, including the exhibition "Where Bees are at Home", which the Embassy, in cooperation with Slovenian Ethnographic Museum, plans to hold at the UN central exhibition center in Tehran during the Slovenian presidency.
In addition to meetings between Slovenian and Iranian experts in the fields of beekeeping, veterinary medicine and education, the Embassy will continue with established educational projects for children of Afghan refugees in Iran, which it will, in cooperation with WHO, FAO and NGOs, expand to the entire country.
